Corryloughaphuill, located beneath Glennamong and the Corranabinnias in North Mayo, is a remote corner of the Nephin Beg Mountains where rugged landscapes and quiet surroundings dominate. A recent hike through the area revealed expansive mountain views, secluded lakes, and sweeping vistas across County Mayo, with Achill Island visible on the horizon.

There is always a good feeling about St Stephen’s Day that doesn’t change much, the day after Christmas. It feels like a perfect time to get out for a bit of exercise and bask in nature, especially after the holiday festivities of the previous few days. This year, Tim and I took advantage of the day, making our way to the breathtaking heights of Croagh Patrick, a mountain steeped in history and stunning scenery. But It turned out to be a rather chilly experience though!

Having visited Moyteoge Head often, climbing Croaghaun was long overdue. The reward was a stunning view of the famous cliffs on its far side—a truly awe-inspiring sight. No photo can do them justice; you simply have to experience them in person.

After a very long time thinking about this one and waiting for the right opportunity to do this hike, I finally managed to do the Bangor Erris trail. Starting from Letterkeen and crossing the Owenduff expanse of Blanket bog to reach Bangor Erris in North Mayo, the occasion marked another one scratched off my bucket list of hikes to do.

A return trip to Birreencorragh was on the cards today due to a great spell of fine weather we were experiencing at the moment. This time, using a different approach from the first time I climbed it, the ascent made for some great trekking and adventure.

During a recent visit to Cork, I had the opportunity to explore the stunning Gougane Barra in West Cork and it definitely lived up to its reputation as a picturesque location with more to offer than just photo opportunities. Nestled on its own island, the charming church is just the beginning of the adventure that awaits at Gougane Barra.

Today, I had the opportunity to return to the Nephin Begs to complete the Glendahurk Loop Walk. The hike took me to the summits of Glenamong and the two Corrannabinnas, and I also had the chance to traverse the renowned Arete between the two for the very first time.

A great hike into the wild remote Nephin Beg range of mountains today is somewhat conflicted with an image of a renewable energy wind farm on the other side of the mountain.

Today, I went on a hiking adventure to capture some stunning images of the Doo Lough valley. I followed the Bunleemshough River back to its source in Corrydavit, surrounded by high hills on three sides. The loop of hills provided breathtaking views of Clew Bay, the Sheeffry Hills, and Mweelrea, the highest mountain in Connaught. The remnants of snow still lying on top of the mountains made for an even more enjoyable sight.
